Please remove brakes and, if possible, the back plates. Frame to be about 1 inch bigger all round. Please use cardboard or bubble wrap on sharp edges and cover with plastic. Any plastic will do - bin liners, pallet wrap, bubble wrap - as long as the driver cannot see dirty metal and refuse to take it. Please scribble your name on the axle tube with a felt pen so we know who it's from. If you intend to remove the axle yourself, click here to see my film for helpful hints on safety and technique. 1. Early square torsion bar types. Up to about 1996. These have four fibre bushes and a grease nipple for each bush. Al-Ko did not drill a hole through the bush to let the grease through to the trailing arm pin. Result! This axle has never had the benefit of grease in it's life. Almost the entire axle has to be replaced. Cost; £1200.00 plus VAT. 2. Late 40mm. square bar. Up to about 1999. Not much better. This one has ONE grease nipple fitted mid way between two bushes which are 8 inches (200 mm.) apart. Cost; £1100 plus VAT. 3. Late 50 mm. square torsion bar. Maltese cross shaped torsion bar. Same sub standard greasing system as 2. Cost. £1180 plus VAT. 4. Round torsion bars. About 1999 on. These have three splined, round torsion bars with the same rubbish greasing Cost £1100.00 plus VAT. Carriage is done very efficiently by TNT at £35.00 plus VAT each way.
Please type your name and postcode in the "Sender's Name" and "Postcode" fields, print and affix this label to the parcel. In the unlikely event of the TNT label coming off, there will be no delay.
Note: if when you view it you notice an error, press the back buton and redo. The following images are intended to illustrate how to prepare your axle for dispatch in accordance with the notes above. We also offer a full rebuild service with grease nipple modification and more - Full details here...
